THERAPY

Whether you are looking for direction, help, rest, or encouragement, therapy is a good option. Often we do not know exactly why we feel the way we feel or act the way we act, and therapy is a scenario that provides a venue for you to be you – freed from the noise and banter of normal life. Therapy is not a magic potion or an escape from life. Rather, therapy is, simply out, a relationship that helps provide the nutrients for you to grow.

Sometimes therapy is focused on one specific pressing issue, and at other times the work takes more of a “broad strokes” approach. Either way, therapy is a unique and potentially life changing course of treatment.

CONSULTATION

Sometimes you just need to sit down and sort things out. During the consultation, which can last over several meetings, we can do just that. During the consultation, you can expect a detailed and intentional series of questions. Psychological testing is often a part of consultation, especially for purposes of diagnostic clarification and treatment planning (the “where are we, how did we get here, and where do we want to be?” portion of treatment). Consultation is your opportunity to tell and hear your story, which is paramount.

Evaluations

The benefits of Psychological Testing/Evaluation are many.  Often during the early stages of therapy it can be helpful to complete a battery of tests in order to gain a better grasp of the issues that are in need of attention.  Some of these tests can be repeated at various intervals in therapy as a “barometer” of our work together.  Psychological testing can provide very meaningful and helpful information as far as diagnostic clarification and treatment planning are concerned, setting the stage, as it were, for therapeutic goals ahead.

Psychological testing can also be applied to cognitive functioning.  One of the more widely used battery of tests in this regard would be ADHD testing, which includes instruments that measure emotional functioning as well as cognitive functioning (IQ, etc).  There are many neuropsychological instruments that can yield excellent information regarding brain function/dysfunction as well as providing insights into particular areas of cognitive strength or weakness (memory, executive functioning, etc).

Often, Psychological testing/evaluation is needed in the occupational setting.  These can be “fitness for duty” evaluations (mainly for Law Enforcement and First Responders) at the initial point of hire of after a critical/sentinel event has taken place.  Other occupations, such as certain vocational ministry candidates, are required to complete Psychological evaluation as part of the discernment process.  In the event of workplace concern (substance misuse, addiction-potential behavior, etc) Psychological evaluation might be recommended.

Finally, there are many surgical procedures that require Psychological evaluation.  These would include bariatric (weight loss) surgery, implantable spinal cord stimulator surgery, and certain transplant surgeries.

At Metanoia Ranch, we are expertly trained and qualified to provide Psychological evaluation/testing.
